Editorial Cartoon Life

For this project we had to choose a topic we thought was important to us. Then had to make a editorial cartoon. For me I used a free program called Krita. Krita lets you animate, draw, edit photos ect. For this project I dropped pictures in the program to make my backgrounds. Then I got to practice drawing and sketching a plot out. For this plot I decided to have a kid in a class room. The kid I wanted to dress up in what most kids will say what they want to be. In this case president or astronaut. While the teacher is a clock with the pendulum. In my experience a lot of older teachers get tired of teaching and are just ready to retire. So that was the point of the clock. I made the grandma just a person because I didn't want to define her. She did many different jobs in her life and she is a well rounded person because of it.

Milton Glaser

  1. What work in Milton Glaser’s career did you find most fascinating and why?

I wouldn't say it's one poster or logo but the way he designs. I love how his designs are so simple and yet give the message so well. For example the I Love New York it's insanely simple but yet communicates so well. As a designer I lean to more messy designs because I love nature photography which is never symmetrical. So seeing something so minimal fascinates me and is always something I challenge myself to do.

  1. Based on the film, what do you think were Milton Glaser’s greatest inspirations?
I would say puzzles would be his biggest inspiration he give people a lot of big pieces that they can put together easy. Also his line work reminds me a lot of music and he talks about how he likes music. Reading music has to be easy and fast for someone to process this way they know how to play a song with other people. Which is a lot like Glaser's work.

  1. What are some statements or ideas Milton Glaser (or his associates) communicates throughout the film to show his passion for his career?

"What student get from a good teacher is not instruction... They get a demonstration of someone's view of life. A way of perceiving the world." I like this statement because I feel like a lot of art and band teachers are like this. Where as other teachers don't seem to want to involved. I did have one history teacher that basically lived that statement and was the best history class I was ever in. And I don't even like history class. That class has helped me through high school and college courses and he was only an eighth grade teacher.

  1. What idea or information from the film was most powerful for you and how will it affect your life and/or choices in the future for your work in this class?

I think something that I respected most is he knows he makes good art but he's also not afraid to criticize himself to be like we should have done female hands instead of man hands. Being confident in apricating your own work but yet understating you make mistakes is super cool to see. I feel like artist I have meet are either to cocky or just don't appreciate there own work when it's actually really good.

Foot Soldier of Birmingham

 1) Do you think the photographer is responsible for taking photos that tell the most accurate story, or is it the audience's responsibility to determine the accuracy and context of an image?

I think a photographer is responsible for telling there story. This is because they will set up an image or take a certain angle to see it at a certain perspective. But I do think part of the blame is on the audience to because if you just go off a picture and don't inform yourself what was happening that day you could perceive the message wring.

2) How can artistic, historical representations help us better understand historical context?

Photos can help us understand what that certain situation actually look like. It's not like old paintings where they try to make certain figures look better. It shows in that moment what everyone looked liked.

3) What was the most powerful takeaway for you after listening to the podcast and why? (For example, what specific quote or story stood out to you the most and why?)

I think the biggest thing was how a photo can capture a moment so wrong. For example that guy never felt oppressed by that police officer and just felt like it was a genuine accident. He was apart of the foot soldiers at all he just wanted to see Martin Luther King and get out of the way of the protesters.

4) How has this podcast changed your outlook as a photographer and as a consumer of photographs?

It shows to be careful on what you see because it may not be what you think. Also as a photographer you need to make sure you message is correct and you are conveying it correctly.

A Visual Guide to the Language, Applications, and History of Graphic Design

 1. W.A. Dwiggins
A fact I found interesting is he is often credited as inventing the term graphic design. Dwiggins was always experimenting with design. For example he messed with stamps, books, kites, theatrical sets and lighting.

2.Disciplines
 A. I would like to learn more about advertising and using digital media with it. I would like to learn this not only to possibly do it as a job but also for my own business.
 B. what I would use digital media marketing for is mainly my business. Also as to do side jobs for other companies.

3. Layout
  A. Subjective means people have different ideas how something should be designed and weather its a good design or not.
   B. People argue because people have many different opinion of what is good design.

4. The first picture looks like they are trying to advertise for delta airlines. They show there check in lines where you weigh your bags. They also show there logo on a plane and another plane flying behind it.
The Butterfeild Market looks like it might be a coffee shop. With the bag I would say they probably sell sandwiches or donuts too. Later on it gives you more pictures and it shows they cater as well.

The MTK looks like they are advertising for an award ceremony or speech. They have a podium and them long tables for people to listen to the speaker.

5. I would say for both giving you peace of mind is in there service. It could also try to show it in the logo. For example in FedEx it has an arrow in it maybe to symbolize quick delivery.
    A.  I would say the Ritz Carlton Logo does not convey for men and women. This is because the way the logo is styled reminds me of a lot of men's polos. Which doesn't not give me the feeling women are as welcome.
    I.  A logo is very important because if you have a cartoony logo people are going to think your business is casual so they will probably show up in sweatpants which is not good if you want to be a fancy place.

6. I worked for ground guys so I will be answering the questions about Ground Guys.
I would say there is a positive reaction with customers. There was a lot of people that apparated our work.
   A. I would say I would have a little bit of a negative stance with the business. It was 10 hour days and the boss was in the office a lot while we were all out there sometimes working over 11 hours and he would go home earlier than that.

Today we played around in Illustrator. We worked on changing brushes and there different patterns. We also learned how to draw straight lines and fix lines if they get messed up. We also learned how to draw curved lines. Lastly we learned how to combine different shapes this way you can resize the whole piece at once.

Slow shutter

For this assignment we had to take the same pictures twice but have a different focal point. The first focal point I choose was the D&E logo. The second picture I choose the church as the focal point but it also shows where the church is.

For this project I tried to capture the different golf swings. This was very hard to do. A lot of pictures I took just look blurry. These were the only one that were less blurry. It was difficult to try to capture.

Robot

For this assignment we got to play in adobe illustrator. We learned how to make different shapes. Also to  change those shapes colors and boarders color. With these new skills we learned how to build a robot. I named my Robot Bim. I wanted Him to look futuristic as a possibly could. Mostly because I wanted to play with the faded fills. For the design I got to do on my own I wanted to make a stain glass type piece. I wanted to do this because I knew I would get to play with a lot of different shapes but could still keep simple.
